This question continues to guide me not only in my own application of NLP but also in a broader exploration into the nature of human genius, creativity and transformation.
From the beginning, NLP set out not merely to describe excellence, but to understand its underlying subjective structure – those deeper patterns of thinking, perceiving and inner representation that enable certain individuals to produce extraordinary results. The aim was never imitation for its own sake. Rather, it was to discover how excellence is produced, so that it might be cultivated, extended and, ultimately, re-created in new and evolving forms.

Robert’s model of Disney’s creative process brings together three perspectives — the Dreamer, the Realist, and the Critic. Each contributes something different. The way they interact can determine whether an idea develops or gets caught in an internal argument.

Robert Dilts is a renowned developer, trainer, and consultant in the field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
A modeler extraordinaire, Robert was one of John Grinder and Richard Bandler’s first students and participated in the creation of NLP. In addition, Robert studied with Milton Erickson and Gregory Bateson.
In 1980, Robert began to develop the Sleight of Mouth patterns, and in 1999 he published “Sleight of Mouth,” an international bestseller. And last year, Robert published “Sleight of Mouth 2,” taking the patterns to a completely new level.
In addition to spearheading the applications of NLP to education, creativity, health, and leadership, his personal contributions to the field of NLP include much of the seminal work on the NLP techniques of Strategies and Belief Systems, and the development of what has become known as Systemic NLP.

With a gift for recognizing patterns, developing models, and explaining ideas clearly, Robert Dilts’ discoveries and contributions to the NLP field are legendary—from eye-accessing cues to ethical entrepreneurship; from health and healing to accelerated learning and NLP coaching.
